Epic of Light (giclee print)
"Epic of Light"
By (the late) Rex A. Begaye
Rex created this piece in Cherokee, NC for the People there. It came to him like no other painting he stated, in a waking dream. We had just arrived to Cherokee at our friends home for the Native Peoples festival and Rex kept telling me (Barb) about an image he was seeing in his inner sight. It kept getting stronger so he began asking questions about the meaning of the images and was given the story of Grand Mother spider through the Tsalagi (Cherokee) stories.
After close to 2 years of asking different elders about their spider story, gathering what was needed until he felt it was complete, Rex began painting. Unlike any other piece I had watched come to life, this one flowed quickly through him. He began painting and didn't stop until it was done. Epic of light was completed in two weeks.
