Her Children (giclee print)
By (the late) Rex A Begaye
Rex described this piece as representing Mother Earth and her children. The four species that you see most often in his work is eagle, buffalo, wolf and bear, each representing a different teaching. Where night and day join you will see profiles symbolizing the spirits of the land. The warrior stands, protecting her and the faces of the ancestors appear throughout the night side.
Rex's pointillism pieces were usually done to the beat of the powwow drum while he was in his booth listening and watching the dancing. The drum symbolizes the heartbeat of the earth, each dot is a beat of the drum.
