Thoughts of Healing (giclee print)
"Thoughts of Healing"
By (the late) Rex A. Begaye
This piece talks about the traditional ceramonies that are passed on from generation to generation and the healing they bring. The eagle wing wraps around the medicine person turning into a robe and a herd of buffalo. The ancestors are coming out of their hand, reminding us of their teachings that are passed to us. The wolf watches, reminding us to use our senses better and pay attention to what is really happening around us.
Rex's pointillism pieces were usually done to the beat of the powwow drum while he was in his booth listening and watching the dancing. The drum symbolizes the heartbeat of the earth, each dot is a beat of the drum.
