Untitled (Archival1)(giclee print)
"Untitled Archival 1"
By (the late) Rex A. Begaye
Rex described this piece as "doodling". This piece is one of the early stiple images he created. This is also one of the few "bear medicine" pieces he created. The medicine circle sits by the warrior, Mother Earth behind it.
The bear fetish symbolizes strength, the heard of buffalo is survival, the eagle is protection and the blessings that we are given by the Earth. The ancestors are woven through the warriors hair reminding us to remember their teachings.
Rex's pointillism pieces were usually done to the beat of the powwow drum while he was in his booth listening and watching the dancing. The drum symbolizes the heartbeat of the earth, each dot is a beat of the drum.
